What is AR450 Steel plate?

AR450 steel plate is another type of abrasion-resistant steel similar to AR400 but with a higher level of hardness. The "AR" still stands for "abrasion-resistant," and the number 450 indicates a higher Brinell hardness number compared to AR400. AR450 steel is designed to provide even greater resistance to wear and abrasion in challenging environments.

Hardness : AR450 steel typically has a hardness of around 450 Brinell, which is higher than that of AR400 steel. This increased hardness makes AR450 more suitable for applications where extreme wear resistance is required.

Toughness : DespiteLike AR400, AR450 steel possesses good toughness, allowing it to withstand impact and deformation without fracturing

Weldability : AR450 steel can be welded, but precautions are generally taken to avoid issues like cracking. Preheating and post-weld heat treatment may be necessary depending on the welding method used.

Properties

AR450 steel is one of the more abrasion resistant steels available. As you increase hardness, however, you are creating a more rigid steel. This means that AR450 is less weldable and formable than other types of AR steel.

AR450 has the following chemical and mechanical properties:

  • Welding = Decent
  • Machining = Good
  • Abrasion Resistance = Excellent
  • Corrosion Resistance = Good
  • Forming = Fair

Steel Requirements

AR450 meets ASTM E10 standards for mechanical properties. The flatness and thickness standards are also 50% of that specified in ASTM A-6 with special tolerances available..
